Jobless This Labor Day? Here’s Help from CareerSource Palm Beach County

West Palm Beach, Fla. (Sept. 4, 2020) – Labor Day 2019 celebrated the workers and employers who helped achieve what had been the longest economic expansion in our history* along with a record low unemployment rate.

What a difference a year makes.

Employment and the economy continue to struggle due to the COVID pandemic. Palm Beach County’s latest unemployment rate is 11.6 percent – nearly the same as the so-called Great Recession of 2010 – and there are more than 80,000 unemployed residents. But enough gloom and doom.

As the county’s chartered leader in workforce development, our CareerSource Palm Beach County team is here to help job seekers find their next opportunity and connect employers with the qualified talent they need as businesses reopen and thrive under the move to Phase 2. Today, we have more than 3,600 jobs available in the county! You can find them on the link from our home page at www.careersourcepbc.com.

Job seekers can meet with our staff in person or access a number of online virtual job readiness workshops and services for help in getting hired in in today’s labor market:

  • Creating a professional resume and cover letter
  • Building a LinkedIn profile and using social media in your job search
  • Handling online job applications
  • Conducting an effective job search and networking campaign
  • Preparing for job interviews
  • Online job, industry and employer research
  • Following up after a job interview

CareerSource staff members are also available via email, online and phone as well as website and social media channels. As always, our services are provided at no cost.

We have held four Virtual Job Fairs, including a first tri-county job fair with our Broward and Research Coast neighbors, together attracting thousands of job seekers connecting with more than 100 employers looking to hire. Coming up are two hiring events for hospitality jobs Sept. 16 and 23 to help hospitality employers’ staff for the winter season. Others will be announced soon.

We also will be announcing our partnership with our Public Library system to act as 17 satellite career centers to help job seekers who don’t have access to computers and/or are unable to travel to our career centers. The first to open will be the Delray Beach Public Library at 100 West Atlantic Avenue where our staff will provide in-person services for job seekers on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning next week.

Our hope for this Labor Day is to provide that first step for someone to find work and support their family. What better way to follow Labor Day than with a new job to celebrate!
